China's pavilion at the 2025 Osaka World Expo has claimed the gold medal in exhibition design, earning recognition for its seamless blend of cultural heritage and technological innovation. The International Exhibitions Bureau announced the award Sunday in the Self-built Pavilions category for structures exceeding 1,500 square meters.
The winning design features interactive digital displays of China's ancient Silk Road routes alongside cutting-edge renewable energy demonstrations. A centerpiece installation recreates traditional Chinese garden architecture using augmented reality, allowing visitors to virtually “walk” through dynastic-era landscapes.
“This achievement reflects China's commitment to cultural exchange and sustainable development,” said Wang Jinzhen, Commissioner-General of China's Expo Museum. The pavilion's “Harmony Between Heaven and Humanity” theme has drawn over 2 million visitors since the expo's opening in April.
The recognition comes as global attention focuses on Asia's growing influence in design innovation. Business analysts note increased international interest in Chinese architectural firms, while cultural scholars highlight the pavilion's success in making historical narratives accessible through modern technology.
With 160 countries and regions participating, the Osaka Expo serves as a crucial platform for international dialogue. China's award-winning pavilion continues to host daily cultural performances and business networking events, bridging traditional arts with contemporary global challenges.
