The remarks came in response to recent visits by foreign politicians to Taiwan and what Beijing describes as 'provocative statements' by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te. Guo criticized Lai's characterization of cross-strait relations as a 'democracy versus authoritarianism' dichotomy, calling it a distortion of historical facts and international consensus.
Historical Context and Legal Foundations
Guo highlighted the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China following the World Anti-Fascist War, stressing that United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 'politically, legally, and procedurally' resolved the issue of China's representation at the UN. 'Any challenge to this resolution constitutes a challenge to the post-war international order,' he stated.

The spokesperson warned that current threats to peace in the Taiwan Strait stem from 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities and external interference. Guo specifically criticized what he called Lai's 'military buildup' efforts, asserting such moves 'push Taiwan toward the danger of conflict.'
