China, Italy Strengthen Ties Amid Global Challenges

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized deepening cooperation with Italy during a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Thursday, calling for a 'more robust, resilient, and fruitful' bilateral relationship. The discussions centered on advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership and addressing global governance challenges.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted China's commitment to implementing joint initiatives outlined in the bilateral action plan. He stressed the importance of dialogue to bridge international trust deficits, particularly through China's Global Governance Initiative, which seeks to strengthen the United Nations' role and promote equitable global systems.

Mattarella praised China's growing influence on the world stage, noting both nations' shared values of peace and multilateralism. 'China's initiatives align with the aspirations of the international community,' he said, endorsing the vision of a 'community with a shared future for humanity.'

The leaders also addressed pressing geopolitical issues, including the Middle East and Ukraine. Both sides reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and agreed to collaborate on seeking a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis.
