Over 250 participants from both sides of the Taiwan Strait gathered in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on Saturday to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a cherished tradition symbolizing family reunion and harmony. The event underscored shared cultural roots and aspirations for cross-strait cooperation amid ongoing efforts to foster peaceful development.
Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, met with Taiwan-based attendees, including Sean Lien, vice chairman of the Kuomintang. Song emphasized the historical significance of 2025, marking 80 years since the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and Taiwan’s recovery from Japanese occupation. He called for strengthened opposition to separatist forces and external interference while advancing integration across the strait.
Lien echoed the festival’s themes of unity, reaffirming the Kuomintang’s commitment to the 1992 Consensus and opposition to “Taiwan independence.” He pledged to deepen cross-strait exchanges and collaboration, describing the event as a bridge for mutual understanding.
Taiwan guests praised the Chinese mainland’s policies supporting economic and cultural integration, vowing to contribute to cross-strait stability and national rejuvenation. The gathering highlighted widespread public support for peaceful dialogue, blending cultural heritage with contemporary diplomatic priorities.
