China’s Submarine Pipeline Network Surpasses 10,000 km Milestone

China's undersea energy infrastructure has reached a historic milestone, with submarine oil and gas pipelines now stretching over 10,000 kilometers – equivalent to nearly a quarter of Earth's circumference. The achievement, announced by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), highlights the nation's growing capabilities in deepwater engineering and energy security.

Since 2021, engineers have laid more than 1,500 km of pipelines in increasingly challenging environments, including record-breaking operations at 1,542 meters below sea level. This technological leap enables energy transportation from ultra-deepwater reserves previously considered inaccessible.

CNOOC's collaboration with domestic universities and industrial partners has driven innovations in pipeline manufacturing, with diameters now ranging from 5 cm to 122 cm. These advancements position China among global leaders in underwater pipeline technology, crucial for developing offshore energy resources while minimizing environmental impact.

The state-owned energy giant plans to accelerate digital transformation in pipeline operations, integrating smart monitoring systems and AI-driven maintenance solutions. This infrastructure expansion supports China's energy transition goals while creating new opportunities in marine engineering and clean energy sectors.
