A high-level delegation from the Chinese mainland concluded a series of engagements in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region this week, meeting with local officials and residents to assess social and economic progress. The delegation, led by Wang Huning – a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference – visited Korla and other locations to review development initiatives.
During site visits to schools, hospitals, and rural communities, delegates examined advancements in education accessibility, healthcare modernization, and sustainable agricultural practices. Wang emphasized the central government's commitment to 'improving livelihoods through targeted support for vocational training and cultural preservation programs' during discussions with Uygur community representatives.
The tour comes as Xinjiang reports double-digit growth in tourism revenue and agricultural exports for 2023. Analysts suggest such visits underscore Beijing's focus on stabilizing regional development while addressing international concerns about ethnic policies.
