Xi Highlights Xinjiang’s Progress at 70th Anniversary Exhibition

Chinese leader Xi Jinping visited a cultural exhibition in Urumqi on Wednesday, commemorating seven decades of development in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The event, held at the regional capital's cultural center, showcased achievements spanning infrastructure, technology, and cultural preservation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The exhibition chronicled Xinjiang's transformation since its establishment as an autonomous region in 1955, emphasizing advancements in education, healthcare, and cross-regional connectivity. Interactive displays highlighted collaborative projects between Xinjiang and other Chinese provinces, reflecting nationwide support for the region's growth.

"This journey through Xinjiang's history demonstrates how unity among all ethnic groups has been instrumental in building a prosperous society," said a curator at the event, pointing to agricultural modernization initiatives and renewable energy projects.

Analysts note the timing coincides with increased international attention on Central Asian development corridors. The exhibition's economic section featured trade data showing Xinjiang's growing role as a hub for China's Belt and Road Initiative, with cross-border trade volumes increasing 22% year-on-year in 2023.
