Super Typhoon Ragasa, packing sustained winds of 202-221 km/h, is barreling toward the Chinese mainland's Guangdong Province with landfall expected Wednesday. The 18th typhoon of the year could become one of the most powerful storms to hit the Pearl River Delta region this decade.
Storm Trajectory and Impact Zones
As of Tuesday morning, the typhoon's eye was located 690 km east-southeast of Yangjiang city. Meteorologists predict it will maintain northwest momentum at 20-25 km/h before striking coastal areas between Shenzhen and Xuwen. Heavy rainfall is forecast for Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Shandong provinces through Thursday.
Infrastructure and Flood Risks
Authorities warn of significant water surges in rivers across Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan. Medium-sized rivers in the storm's path may exceed danger levels, prompting the Ministry of Water Resources to maintain a Level IV flood control response in Guangdong.
Emergency Preparations Intensify
Guangdong upgraded its wind control response to Level I – the highest alert – while Hainan elevated typhoon and flood responses to Level III. Disaster management teams have been deployed to critical zones to coordinate evacuations and infrastructure protection.
