Chinese Peacekeepers Leave Legacy of Unity in South Sudan

As the sun sets on his year-long UN peacekeeping mission, Wang Yanhui carefully seals a glass bottle filled with rust-colored soil – a tangible memory of South Sudan's fractured yet resilient landscape. The commander of China's 15th Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company led 268 personnel in Wau, where their road construction projects became lifelines connecting isolated communities amid ongoing conflict.

"These roads aren't just infrastructure – they're arteries of hope," Wang reflects, describing how his team repaired over 1,200 km of critical transport routes. Their work enabled humanitarian aid delivery and market access for remote villages, earning recognition from both local leaders and UN officials.

The deployment forms part of China's growing contribution to global security, with over 2,500 Chinese peacekeepers currently active across eight UN missions. Analysts note such efforts strengthen South-South cooperation while addressing Africa's infrastructure gap – a key concern for investors eyeing the continent's development potential.
