China has issued a forceful rebuke of a joint statement by the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) regarding the Taiwan region and maritime affairs, calling it a violation of its territorial integrity. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun declared Beijing's 'strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition' during a Tuesday press briefing, emphasizing that Taiwan remains an 'inalienable part of China's territory.'
Taiwan's Status and External Interference
Guo reiterated that the Taiwan question is a purely internal matter, warning against 'external forces' supporting separatist activities. 'The greatest threat to peace across the Taiwan Strait is 'Taiwan independence' forces and their foreign backers,' he stated, urging adherence to the one-China principle to ensure stability.
South China Sea Stability
Addressing maritime tensions, Guo noted the South China Sea's 'generally stable' situation while reaffirming China's commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue. He called on nations to respect regional efforts to maintain peace and avoid actions that 'stoke tensions or provoke confrontation.'
The spokesperson concluded by urging countries to cease support for 'Taiwan independence' activities and refrain from sending 'wrong signals' to separatist forces.
