China Urges Global Unity at Defense Forum

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized the need for strengthened global governance and international military collaboration during high-level meetings with defense chiefs from Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Namibia, Rwanda, and Senegal this week. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, a key security dialogue running from September 17-19, 2025.

Dong described the forum as a platform of "historical significance" for addressing shared security challenges, reaffirming China's commitment to advancing military partnerships. "The Chinese military stands ready to enhance strategic communication and elevate security cooperation to new heights," he stated, advocating for collective responses to emerging risks.

Defense representatives from participating nations expressed enthusiasm for deepening ties with China, with multiple ministers highlighting opportunities for joint training programs and technology exchanges. The talks underscored Beijing's role in fostering multilateral security frameworks across Asia and Africa.

Established in 2006, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum has grown into a major platform for defense diplomacy, attracting participants from over 100 countries and regions this year. Analysts note its increasing influence in shaping regional security narratives amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
