UN Chief Praises China’s Global Initiatives as Aligned with UN Charter

UN Secretary-General António Guterres endorsed China's proposed global initiatives as fully compatible with the UN Charter during a press briefing ahead of the UN General Assembly's High-level Week. Speaking to journalists in New York, Guterres emphasized the initiatives' alignment with multilateralism and peaceful conflict resolution.

"There is full support of the UN as the central piece of multilateral institutions," Guterres stated, highlighting China's commitment to international cooperation. The remarks come as nearly 150 world leaders prepare to convene for discussions on pressing issues, including climate action, gender equality, and sustainable development.

The UN chief outlined plans to leverage over 150 bilateral meetings during the assembly to mediate solutions for conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan. He stressed the need for "responsible innovation" and concrete financing strategies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Analysts suggest Guterres' endorsement signals growing recognition of China's role in shaping global governance frameworks. The High-level Week, starting September 18, will test member states' ability to translate diplomatic dialogue into actionable policies addressing interconnected crises.
