China Urges Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza Amid Escalating Conflict

China has issued a strong appeal for peace in the Middle East as tensions reach new heights in Gaza. At a Wednesday press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian condemned Israel's expanded military operations, stating: "We oppose actions harming civilians and violating international law. All parties must prioritize regional stability."

The statement follows reports of intensified Israeli airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza City since September 16, with UN investigators alleging potential violations of international humanitarian law. Over 40% of Gaza's population has reportedly been displaced according to Israeli military estimates.

"China urges immediate cessation of military operations and full implementation of a lasting ceasefire," Lin emphasized, highlighting concerns about worsening humanitarian conditions. The remarks come days after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated Washington's support for Israel's campaign against Hamas.

As diplomatic efforts intensify, Beijing called on "relevant parties to demonstrate responsibility" and contribute to de-escalation. The development underscores China's growing engagement in Middle Eastern peace initiatives amid global calls for conflict resolution.
