Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized China's role as a catalyst for global development during a meeting with Slovenian National Council President Marko Lotric in Ljubljana on Sunday. The high-level dialogue underscored Beijing's commitment to fostering international partnerships through its unique development model.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, outlined China's socialist path that integrates Marxist principles with domestic realities and cultural heritage. "Our development philosophy prioritizes peace, sustainability, and mutual benefit," Wang stated, positioning China's growth as an engine for worldwide economic opportunities.
The discussion highlighted three key pillars of China's international strategy:
Expanding high-level opening-up policies to facilitate green development
Promoting modernization with Chinese characteristics
Advocating for multilateral cooperation through UN-centered frameworks
Wang specifically addressed Europe-China relations, asserting: "No current European challenges originate from China. Our continents should collaborate as partners, progressing together through dialogue and shared objectives." He urged Slovenia to uphold the one-China principle while contributing to stable EU-China relations.
Lotric praised China's modernization achievements, noting: "Our bilateral cooperation in trade, technology, and legislative exchanges has delivered concrete benefits." Slovenia plans to participate in November's China International Import Expo and supports President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative.
The meeting concluded with commitments to deepen collaboration in education, sports, and sustainable technology, reflecting growing economic ties that saw bilateral trade reach $5.3 billion in 2023 – a 12% year-on-year increase.
