China has delivered its largest domestically developed offshore floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, marking a leap in marine engineering capabilities. The NGUYA FLNG, unveiled in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, spans 376 meters in length and can store 180,000 cubic meters of LNG, with an annual production capacity of 2.4 million tonnes.
Designed for deployment off the coast of the Republic of the Congo, the facility underscores China’s growing role in global energy infrastructure. Its unique design and massive scale required meticulous planning, including optimized tidal navigation strategies and a 740-meter towing fleet – the longest ever recorded in Nantong’s maritime history.
The project involved 14 patrol boats, tugboats, and advanced drone monitoring, reflecting China’s technical precision in high-value marine projects. Analysts highlight its potential to strengthen energy partnerships with African nations while advancing sustainable fuel solutions.
