China Honors Korean War Soldiers with Repatriation Ceremony in Shenyang

China will hold a solemn burial ceremony in Shenyang on Saturday to honor the remains of 30 Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) soldiers who perished during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953). The remains, repatriated from the Republic of Korea (ROK), will be laid to rest at the CPV martyrs’ cemetery, according to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.

This marks the 12th repatriation since China and the ROK signed a handover agreement in 2014. Over the past decade, the remains of CPV soldiers and related artifacts have been returned in 11 prior transfers, reflecting ongoing efforts to honor those who sacrificed their lives in the conflict. Nearly 200,000 CPV soldiers were confirmed killed during the war.

A delegation from China, alongside People’s Liberation Army (PLA) guards, will oversee the repatriation via a PLA Air Force Y-20 transport aircraft. The ceremony will include representatives from central and local governments, military officials, war veterans, families of the fallen, and local residents. Yellow and white chrysanthemums, symbols of remembrance, will adorn the cemetery.

The event underscores the enduring historical ties between China and the ROK, while emphasizing the importance of preserving peace and commemorating shared sacrifices. For global audiences, it serves as a poignant reminder of Asia’s complex 20th-century history and its ongoing resonance in regional diplomacy.
