Chinese actress Xin Zhilei made history at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, claiming the Best Actress award for her riveting performance in The Sun Rises on Us All. The film, directed by acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Cai Shangjun, explores a haunting love story of estranged lovers bound by fate. Xin's portrayal of the complex female lead earned widespread praise from the international jury.
Xin received the Golden Lion trophy from fellow Chinese actress Zhao Tao, a jury member, during Saturday's ceremony. In her emotional acceptance speech, she emphasized the significance of her win for Chinese cinema: "Standing here as a Chinese actress fills me with immense pride."
Addressing aspiring artists globally, Xin added: "To all the girls out there – dare to dream boldly. Your persistence could rewrite your destiny."
The festival, running through September 6 on Venice's Lido Island, features 21 films competing for top honors. Xin's victory marks China's third Best Actress win at Venice since 2006, underscoring the growing influence of Asian talent in global cinema.
