VENICE – Chinese films are reclaiming the spotlight at international festivals, with industry leaders at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival praising their unique ability to bridge tradition and modernity while resonating with global audiences. This year’s event features a surge in Chinese entries, signaling what festival director Alberto Barbera calls 'a comeback of Chinese cinema on the international stage.'

Roberto Stabille of Italy’s Cinecitta noted Chinese films have become crucial cultural ambassadors: 'Audiences connect with stories reflecting contemporary China’s realities – not just its past.' The sentiment was echoed by Michel Reilhac, a Venice Immersive consultant, who highlighted how Chinese creators blend historical depth with cutting-edge digital formats to create 'works that help global viewers understand Chinese stories better.'

Italian director Italo Spinelli observed a generational shift, with emerging filmmakers producing content that 'carries international meaning through local narratives.' He emphasized that the most authentically Chinese stories often achieve the broadest appeal, stating: 'The more Chinese it is, the more international it becomes.'

With streaming platforms and immersive technologies reshaping film consumption, experts agree China’s cinematic innovations – from AI-driven storytelling to hybrid historical narratives – position it as a key player in defining the future of global entertainment.
