China Unveils Advanced UAV and Aircraft at Low-Altitude Economy Summit

Wuhu, a hub for aviation innovation in the Chinese mainland, set the stage for breakthroughs in low-altitude technology as the 2025 Low-Altitude Economy Development Conference kicked off on September 5. The event spotlighted two cutting-edge aircraft: the Xiangyun V unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the CA40 fixed-wing plane, both unveiled publicly for the first time.

The Xiangyun V UAV, developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) Wuhu Diamond Aircraft Manufacture Company, marks a leap in domestic cargo drone capabilities. With a 2,000-kilogram payload capacity and a 2,000-kilometer range, this twin-engine drone is engineered to address logistics challenges in remote regions while prioritizing cost efficiency. Its 14.5-cubic-meter cargo space and emergency rescue adaptability position it as a key player in China’s aviation logistics sector.

Meanwhile, the CA40 aircraft targets flight training and tourism with its domestically produced avionics and heavy-fuel engine. Boasting a 260 km/h cruise speed, anti-spin design, and de-icing features, the four-seat plane emphasizes safety and versatility. Its all-composite airframe—designed for unlimited operational lifespan—could redefine private aviation and aerial patrol services.

Hosted under the theme “Scenario Innovation Leads, Safe and Orderly Development,” the conference has become a cornerstone for industry collaboration since its 2022 inception. To date, Wuhu has secured 82 key projects worth 59.8 billion yuan ($8.4 billion), signaling robust investor confidence in the low-altitude economy sector.

Over 100 experts and entrepreneurs attended the three-day event, underscoring China’s push to expand its aerospace capabilities while fostering cross-sector partnerships. As these technologies mature, they are poised to reshape logistics networks, emergency response systems, and regional connectivity across Asia.
