China Strengthens Ties with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan Amid SCO Summit Diplomacy

Beijing witnessed a flurry of diplomatic activity this week as senior Chinese leaders held high-level talks with Central Asian counterparts, signaling deepening cooperation ahead of key regional events.

Strategic Partnership with Tajikistan

Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, met Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday, building on President Xi Jinping's earlier discussions. The leaders emphasized implementing bilateral agreements covering trade, security, and cultural exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.

Rahmon, attending events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War victory, affirmed China's central role in Tajikistan's foreign policy. Both sides pledged to strengthen parliamentary cooperation to support joint infrastructure and economic projects.

Kyrgyzstan Cooperation Advances

In parallel talks, CPC Central Committee senior official Cai Qi met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, focusing on implementing head-of-state agreements. The discussions highlighted plans to enhance practical cooperation in agriculture, energy, and regional security mechanisms.

Japarov praised China's commemorative events as 'powerful demonstrations of historical remembrance and peace advocacy,' while reaffirming support for China's core interests. The meetings coincide with preparations for the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, where Central Asian partnerships are expected to take center stage.
