China has announced an ambitious three-year national campaign to strengthen bird protection, marking a significant step in addressing ecological challenges and biodiversity loss. The initiative will prioritize habitat preservation, anti-poaching measures, and public education programs starting this autumn.
Three Pillars of Protection
The campaign will focus on restoring critical wetland and forest ecosystems along major migratory routes, including the East Asian-Australasian Flyway used by over 50 million birds annually. Authorities plan to establish new protected areas and enhance monitoring systems using satellite tracking and AI-powered observation platforms.
Combating Illegal Activities
A specialized wildlife crime task force will be formed to dismantle trafficking networks, with upgraded penalties for illegal hunting and trading of protected species. Recent enforcement actions in Guangdong province already resulted in the seizure of 2,300 illegal bird-catching devices and the rescue of 1,800 wild birds.
Community Engagement Strategy
The program includes school curriculum updates and a national 'Bird Guardian' volunteer network. "Protecting avian species is crucial for maintaining ecological balance and food security," said Ministry of Ecology and Environment spokesperson Zhao Min. "This campaign represents our commitment to harmonious coexistence with nature.\p>
The initiative aligns with China's participation in global biodiversity agreements and could benefit 1,400 bird species, including endangered cranes and pheasants native to Asia.
