Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled a new Global Governance Initiative (GGI) during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus (SCO+) meeting in Tianjin on Monday, calling for international collaboration to build a "more just and equitable" world order.
In his keynote address, Xi emphasized the need to strengthen multilateral frameworks and outlined five core principles for the GGI:
- Adherence to sovereign equality among nations
- Commitment to international rule of law
- Promotion of multilateral cooperation
- Prioritization of people-centered development
- Focus on actionable, results-driven policies
"We must advance toward a community with a shared future for humanity," Xi stated, urging SCO+ members and other countries to align efforts on pressing global challenges. The initiative comes amid growing discussions about reforming international institutions to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.
The SCO+, which includes Eurasian nations and observer states, serves as a key platform for regional security and economic coordination. Analysts suggest the GGI could influence debates on trade, climate policy, and conflict resolution across Asia and beyond.
