Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Beijing on Monday to participate in events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The visit underscores deepening diplomatic and economic ties between China and Central Asian nations.
The commemorations honor historical collaboration among Allied forces during WWII, with China playing a pivotal role in the Asian theater. President Rahmon's attendance follows recent bilateral agreements on trade and infrastructure development under China's Belt and Road Initiative, which has seen increased investment in Tajik energy and transportation projects.
Analysts note the timing coincides with growing regional security cooperation, particularly in counterterrorism efforts. "This visit reinforces Tajikistan's strategic partnership with China," said Central Asian affairs expert Dr. Liu Wei. "Shared historical memory continues to shape contemporary geopolitical alliances."
The events will include a military parade and symposiums examining WWII's lasting impact on Asia-Pacific stability. Over 20 national leaders are expected to attend the September 3 ceremonies.
