China Unveils New SCO Cooperation Platforms in Energy, Green Tech, and Digital Economy

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of three major platforms to deepen collaboration between China and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during the SCO summit in Tianjin. The initiatives, focusing on energy, green industries, and the digital economy, aim to accelerate sustainable development and technological innovation across the region.

Driving Regional Growth

President Xi emphasized China's commitment to sharing market opportunities and advancing high-quality economic and trade cooperation with SCO members. The new platforms will include dedicated centers for scientific innovation, higher education, and vocational training, fostering cross-border knowledge exchange and workforce development.

Renewable Energy and Tech Partnerships

China plans to expand installed capacity for photovoltaic and wind power by 10 million kilowatts each within five years. Additionally, Xi proposed creating an artificial intelligence application cooperation center and invited SCO members to utilize China's Beidou Satellite Navigation System. The International Lunar Research Station project was also highlighted as a collaborative opportunity for space exploration.

Implications for Global Stakeholders

These initiatives present fresh opportunities for businesses eyeing Asia's green transition, researchers studying regional integration, and governments seeking climate solutions. The focus on digital infrastructure and education aligns with broader trends in Asia's economic modernization, making the SCO a key forum for shaping Eurasia's development trajectory.
