Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a major regional development initiative on Monday, pledging to implement 100 "small and beautiful" livelihood projects across Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. The commitment came during his keynote address at the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in Tianjin.
"These projects will focus on practical cooperation that directly improves quality of life," Xi stated, emphasizing China's role as a driver of regional development. The initiative includes 2 billion yuan ($280.5 million) in grants to be distributed within 2024, along with an additional 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) in loans through SCO financial institutions over the next three years.
