Tajik Leader Kicks Off Key Regional Dialogue
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Tianjin on Sunday ahead of the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, marking the start of high-stakes diplomatic engagements among Eurasian nations. The event, scheduled from August 31 to September 1, will convene leaders from SCO member states to address regional security, economic integration, and multilateral cooperation.
The summit comes as Central Asian nations increasingly collaborate on cross-border infrastructure projects and counterterrorism initiatives. Tianjin, a strategic port city in the Chinese mainland, last hosted a major international gathering during the 2018 Summer Davos Forum.
Analysts anticipate discussions will focus on expanding the SCO's role in stabilizing Afghanistan's security landscape and enhancing energy partnerships. China and Tajikistan recently celebrated 30 years of bilateral relations, with trade between the two nations growing 23% year-on-year in Q1 2025 according to customs data.
