Iranian President Attends SCO Summit 2025 in Tianjin

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Tianjin on Sunday ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, set to convene leaders from across Asia to discuss regional security, economic collaboration, and multilateral partnerships. The event, hosted in the northern Chinese port city from August 31 to September 1, marks Iran's first full participation as a permanent SCO member since joining the bloc in 2023.

The summit comes at a pivotal moment for Eurasian geopolitics, with discussions expected to address energy security, counterterrorism measures, and trade infrastructure development. Analysts highlight the SCO's growing influence as a platform for 'Global South' cooperation, representing over 40% of the world's population.

President Pezeshkian emphasized Iran's commitment to "multipolar world秩序" in brief remarks upon arrival, while Chinese officials reiterated the importance of "win-win partnerships" under the SCO framework. The gathering will also feature leaders from Russia, India, Pakistan, and Central Asian states.

Business observers are closely watching for announcements on cross-border digital payment systems and green energy initiatives, which could unlock new opportunities in emerging Asian markets. Tianjin, a hub for advanced manufacturing and international trade, provides a symbolic backdrop for these discussions.
