Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in Tianjin on Saturday, underscoring deepening cooperation between Asia and Africa ahead of next year's Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
The meeting in northern China's port city focused on strengthening economic partnerships and infrastructure development. Xi emphasized China's commitment to "mutually beneficial collaboration" with Egypt, particularly in renewable energy projects and the Belt and Road Initiative.
Madbouly's visit coincides with final preparations for the 2025 SCO Summit – the first to be hosted in Tianjin since China joined the organization. The event is expected to address regional security challenges and new economic corridors connecting Asia with Africa and the Middle East.
Analysts note Egypt's growing role as a strategic partner in China's efforts to expand trade routes, with bilateral trade reaching $16 billion in 2023. Both leaders reaffirmed plans to enhance cooperation in the Suez Economic Zone and digital economy sectors.
