As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) prepares for its largest-ever summit on August 31, a new global poll reveals overwhelming confidence in the bloc's ability to redefine international cooperation. The survey by CGTN and Renmin University of China, covering 8,873 respondents across 38 countries, positions the SCO as a critical player in addressing 21st-century challenges through its unique governance model.

Economic Momentum & Security Gains

With 91.7% of SCO state respondents crediting the organization for boosting economic growth and 89.2% praising infrastructure progress, the data underscores tangible regional benefits. Notably, 83.7% highlighted reduced reliance on Western financial systems through local currency settlements—a key priority amid global economic realignments.

China's Stewardship Earns High Marks

Over 91% of SCO members recognized China's leadership in driving security cooperation and economic integration. Younger demographics showed particular enthusiasm, with 78.8% approval among 25–34-year-olds for Beijing's role in expanding the bloc's influence.

The Shanghai Spirit's Global Appeal

The survey found 86.8% global support for the SCO's non-confrontational 'Shanghai Spirit,' seen as offering fresh solutions for multipolar governance. Over 80% agreed the approach amplifies developing nations' voices while easing major-power tensions.

Multipolar Momentum

With 76.9% of respondents identifying the SCO as accelerating global power shifts, expectations run high: 91.1% of SCO citizens and 60%+ in G7 nations want deeper economic collaboration through the platform.
