China Ranks 2nd Globally in Intelligent Computing Capacity

China's intelligent computing capacity has surged to 780,000 petaflops (PFlops), securing its position as the world's second-largest provider of advanced computing power, according to Liu Liehong, head of the National Data Administration. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2025 in Guiyang, Guizhou Province.

Liu highlighted China's rapid progress in data infrastructure, including the establishment of 25 urban business nodes by July 2024. The growth is driven by the 'East Data, West Computing' initiative, a national strategy to optimize computing resource distribution. Over 60% of new computing capacity now originates from eight national hubs, with intelligent computing alone reaching 620,000 PFlops.

Guizhou, a pioneer in the initiative, recently launched the world's first 400G all-optical network computing channel, cementing its role as a key hub. The expo, running until August 30, has drawn over 16,000 participants and 375 enterprises, showcasing China's expanding influence in global tech innovation.
