An unprecedented cultural dialogue unfolds in Beijing as the "Where Civilizations Meet" exhibition opens at the National Museum of China. Featuring artifacts from nine Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, the event highlights shared historical roots and modern cooperation across Asia.
Curators from China, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, and Tajikistan collaborated to present over 200 relics spanning 3,000 years. The collection includes Silk Road trade records, Persian astrolabes, and nomadic warrior armor – tangible evidence of ancient intercultural exchanges.
"This exhibition bridges our past and present," said National Museum Director Li Qun. "By understanding how our ancestors connected through trade and ideas, we gain perspective for today's regional cooperation."
The showcase precedes next month's SCO Tianjin Summit, where leaders will discuss economic integration and security. Cultural analysts note the timing underscores the organization's emphasis on soft diplomacy through heritage preservation.
Free public admission continues through September 15, with virtual tours available for international audiences. Museum officials confirm plans for a traveling version to visit participating countries in 2024.
