Global Experts Convene in Xinjiang to Tackle Terrorism Challenges

Government officials and scholars from over 20 countries and regions gathered in Urumqi this week for a landmark international seminar on counterterrorism, hosted in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The event focused on sharing strategies to combat extremism and enhance cross-border collaboration in security matters.

Participants emphasized the need for unified global action against terrorism during panel discussions. 'Terrorism is a common enemy of humanity,' stated a representative from the Chinese delegation, highlighting Xinjiang's experience in maintaining social stability since 2017 through education and economic development programs.

Delegates from Central Asian nations shared case studies on de-radicalization efforts, while European counterparts presented technological solutions for monitoring extremist content online. The seminar also addressed challenges in balancing security measures with human rights protections, fostering dialogue between Western and Asian perspectives.

Xinjiang's role as a hub for international counterterrorism research was underscored through facility tours and cultural exchanges. Organizers announced plans to establish a permanent working group to facilitate ongoing information sharing between participating nations and regions.
