Under the theme "In Qingdao, the world meets through light and shadow," the event unites filmmakers, diplomats, and creatives from SCO member states to explore shared storytelling and industry partnerships.
Bridging Cultures Through Cinema
The opening ceremony featured performances, film previews, and discussions on cross-border collaboration. SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev emphasized the event's role in strengthening regional ties, stating it offers "a cinematic feast for the senses and a boost to friendship." China Media Group's Zhou Zhenhong highlighted efforts to promote the "Shanghai Spirit" of mutual understanding through cultural initiatives.
Qingdao's Cinematic Ambitions
As a UNESCO City of Film, Qingdao showcased its state-of-the-art production facilities, including the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis. The venue's president, Sun Hengqin, invited international filmmakers to leverage the city's resources, calling it a hub where "creativity meets opportunity." The week also introduced "Operation Hadal: Special Edition," a technologically advanced film produced locally.
Global Engagement and Innovation
Beyond screenings, the event features hybrid programming: 29 films across Qingdao cinemas, 24 documentaries online, and interactive sessions with industry leaders. A "Light and Shadow Qingdao" media campaign led by creators from eight countries will promote the city's cultural landscape through short videos. Filmmakers like Stanley Tong and Iran's Mahmoud Babaei discussed strategies for elevating global film quality during livestreamed forums.
