Over 200 policymakers, scholars, and diplomats gathered in Addis Ababa on Friday for the First China-Africa Human Rights Seminar, emphasizing development as a cornerstone of human dignity. The event, themed “Building the China-Africa Community with a Shared Future,” underscored collaborative strategies to advance economic and social rights across both regions.
Jiang Jianguo, executive vice president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, highlighted China’s approach to intertwining development with human rights progress. “Historic achievements in China’s human rights cause demonstrate that improving livelihoods during modernization forms the path to universal well-being,” he stated. Jiang, also a senior member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, emphasized the shared values of peace and development between Chinese and African societies.
The seminar fostered dialogue on practical solutions to address inequality and resource gaps, with participants reaffirming commitments to South-South cooperation. Analysts noted the alignment with broader efforts to establish equitable global governance frameworks.
