China will host its largest-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, 2025, marking a milestone in regional diplomacy. Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin confirmed over 20 national leaders and heads of 10 international organizations will attend, including key figures from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
This fifth SCO summit hosted by China aims to strengthen multilateral cooperation, with discussions focusing on security, economic integration, and cultural exchange. Liu emphasized the event will chart a development blueprint for the organization and advance the vision of a "closer SCO community with a shared future."
Notable attendees include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Leaders from ASEAN, the Eurasian Economic Commission, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will also participate, reflecting the summit's cross-regional significance.
The summit underscores China's role in fostering dialogue among emerging economies and established global players. Analysts anticipate agreements on trade facilitation, counterterrorism collaboration, and infrastructure investment frameworks to dominate the agenda.
