China-Kenya Cultural Event Honors WWII Legacy, Promotes Peace

NAIROBI — China Media Group (CMG) marked the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War with a cultural exchange event in Kenya, blending historical reflection with cross-continental dialogue. The “Echo of Peace” gathering in Nairobi on August 19 drew over 200 Kenyan government representatives, media professionals, and academics, spotlighting shared commitments to peace and historical remembrance.

CMG President Shen Haixiong, addressing attendees via video, emphasized the enduring relevance of history. “History is the best textbook,” he stated, urging collective efforts to “safeguard peace, defend fairness, and create a better future.”

The event showcased Chinese films and documentaries, including works by CGTN Africa that highlighted the often-overlooked contributions of African soldiers during WWII. Attendees praised the screenings for reviving historical narratives and fostering a deeper understanding of Africa’s role in the global conflict.

By bridging past and present, the event underscored the importance of international collaboration in preserving peace—a message resonating strongly amid today’s geopolitical complexities.
