China Calls on U.S. to Halt ‘Unwarranted’ Student Harassment

China has demanded immediate action from U.S. authorities to address what it calls systematic harassment of Chinese students at American ports of entry. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated Friday that Beijing will 'continue taking resolute measures' to protect its citizens' rights amid growing bilateral tensions.

'The U.S. must thoroughly investigate and correct its wrong practices of unwarranted questioning, harassment, and forced repatriation of Chinese students,' Mao said during a regular press briefing. She confirmed China has repeatedly lodged formal complaints through diplomatic channels.

The development comes as educational exchanges – long considered a stabilizing force in China-U.S. relations – face unprecedented strain. Over 300,000 Chinese students currently study in American institutions, contributing significantly to cross-cultural understanding and university revenues.

While no specific incidents were detailed, the statement reflects broader concerns about bilateral relations and the treatment of Chinese nationals abroad. Analysts suggest the issue could impact academic collaboration and technology transfer agreements if unresolved.
