Fujian’s Coastal Mega-Bridge Nears Completion, Boosts Regional Growth

The Dongwuyang Super Bridge – a critical link in southeast China's Ningde-Shangrao Expressway – achieved full structural closure this week, marking a milestone in regional infrastructure development. Spanning 2.5 kilometers across Fujian's coastal terrain, the engineering feat connects two major economic hubs while demonstrating advanced construction techniques.

Workers completed the final concrete pour at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, strategically timing the operation to minimize thermal stress on the structure. The bridge's innovative cantilever cast-in-place method allowed precise assembly of its four closure segments, each requiring millimeter-level accuracy during installation.

As part of China's national expressway network, this “coastal artery” is projected to reduce travel time between Fujian and Jiangxi provinces by 40% when operational in December. Analysts predict the route will accelerate development of Fujian's manufacturing and technology corridors while creating new tourism opportunities along the scenic coastline.

Local officials emphasize the project's broader implications: “This infrastructure upgrade strengthens our position in regional supply chains while improving connectivity for residents and businesses alike,” noted a Fujian transport department representative.
