China’s Third National Park Forum Champions Conservation & Sustainability

China’s third National Park Forum opened in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Tuesday, bringing together policymakers, scientists, and conservationists to advance ecological protection. Organized by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Sichuan provincial government, this year’s forum emphasized harmonizing nature preservation with technological innovation under the theme 'Protecting Natural Treasures, Shaping the Beauty of Harmony.'

Key Achievements Unveiled

Three major initiatives were launched at the event: a comprehensive national park development report, a monitoring system blueprint, and a visual identity design manual. The development report, backed by over 50 experts from institutions like Tsinghua University and Peking University, highlighted ecological successes such as restoring black soil beaches in Sanjiangyuan, reconnecting giant panda habitats, and reviving Amur tiger populations.

Tech-Driven Conservation

The newly introduced monitoring system integrates satellite data, ground sensors, and AI to create a real-time 'sky–space–ground' network for tracking wildlife and managing parks. Meanwhile, the design manual standardizes visual branding across all parks to strengthen public recognition of China’s conservation efforts.

Community & Climate Focus

Social benefits took center stage, with the first five national parks employing nearly 50,000 local residents as ecological rangers. The forum also pioneered a carbon-neutral framework, measuring emissions from transportation, catering, and materials to ensure full traceability and offsetting—a model for future sustainable events.
