China’s FM Wang Yi to Strengthen Ties in Pakistan Visit, Strategic Dialogue

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will embark on a three-day diplomatic mission to Pakistan starting August 20, marking a significant step in reinforcing the 'ironclad' partnership between the two nations. The visit will feature the 6th China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, as confirmed by China's foreign ministry spokesperson on Tuesday.

The dialogue is expected to focus on advancing economic collaboration, regional security coordination, and progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – a flagship project of Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative. Analysts anticipate discussions on expanding industrial partnerships in energy, infrastructure, and emerging technologies.

This meeting follows recent high-level exchanges between the neighbors, including February's Joint Cooperation Committee meeting that saw both sides commit to accelerating CPEC's second phase. The corridor has already facilitated over $25 billion in Chinese investments in Pakistan's transportation networks and power infrastructure since 2013.

The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson emphasized that the visit underscores 'the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership' between the countries, noting that 'both sides will discuss practical cooperation across various fields and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.'

Regional security dynamics, particularly counterterrorism cooperation and stability efforts in Afghanistan, are also expected to feature prominently in the talks. The dialogue occurs amid shifting geopolitical landscapes in South Asia and China's growing role as a mediator in regional conflicts.
