China Battles Extreme Rainfall, Flood Risks in Critical Season

China's flood-control systems are being tested as scattered but intense rainfall events sweep across multiple regions during this year's critical flood season, according to the Ministry of Water Resources. At least 330 rivers exceeded warning levels between July 16 and August 15, with 22 reaching historic water levels.

Emergency Responses Activated

Authorities implemented 3 Level-III and 12 Level-IV emergency responses, deploying 37 expert teams to guide flood mitigation efforts. The measures come as three typhoons made landfall during this period – one more than average – affecting 13 provincial-level regions through multiple impacts.

Ongoing Climate Challenges

With the main flood season still underway, officials warn of continued risks from extreme weather. The ministry emphasized preparedness for potential new rainfall-triggered disasters, particularly in areas where water levels remain elevated.
