China Calls on Nations to Respect Hong Kong Sovereignty

China has reiterated its call for foreign governments to cease interference in Hong Kong's affairs, emphasizing adherence to the rule of law and mutual respect in international relations. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed concerns during a press briefing on Monday, responding to reports of Australia sheltering individuals accused of involvement in anti-China activities.

Mao stressed that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government 'firmly opposes any external forces undermining its legal system.' She urged countries to 'respect China's sovereignty and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs,' highlighting Hong Kong's status as an 'inalienable part of China.'

The remarks come amid ongoing efforts to stabilize China-Australia relations. Mao affirmed China's commitment to 'equality and mutual benefit' while encouraging Australia to 'create favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation through concrete actions.' Analysts suggest the statement reflects Beijing's broader strategy to safeguard national security while navigating complex geopolitical dynamics in the Asia-Pacific region.
