The remarks came during a Chinese Foreign Ministry press conference on Thursday, amid reports of canceled diplomatic engagements and concerns over Taiwan-related activities.
Diplomatic Tensions Rise
Spokesperson Lin Jian addressed media inquiries about Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Jun postponing a planned visit to Japan. While deferring specifics to relevant authorities, Lin stressed China's openness to maintaining dialogue with Japan. However, he urged Tokyo to demonstrate sincerity by adhering to the one-China principle and honoring commitments outlined in bilateral agreements.
Japan's Role in Cross-Strait Stability
The spokesperson criticized Japan for permitting Lin Chia-lung, head of the Taiwan region's foreign affairs authorities, to visit under the guise of a "personal trip." China views such actions as enabling separatist agendas, violating international norms, and contravening the political foundations of China-Japan relations. Lin Jian reiterated that cross-strait peace requires all parties to avoid emboldening forces seeking Taiwan's independence.
China's stance remains clear: safeguarding national sovereignty is non-negotiable, and any external interference in Taiwan affairs risks destabilizing regional cooperation.
