The 2025 World Games in Chengdu unveiled a groundbreaking cultural symbol this week: the awards ceremony anthem Light of Chengdu, a fusion of Sichuan folk traditions and global musical influences. Composer Luo Wei described the piece as a 'bridge between regional heritage and cosmopolitan aspirations,' reflecting the host city's vision for cultural diplomacy through sport.
Featuring a four-minute orchestral arrangement, the anthem interweaves the beloved local melody The Sun Comes Out Delightfully Bright with traditional instruments like the pipa and guzheng. A children's choir amplifies its emotional crescendo, while brass and string sections create a cross-cultural finale designed to resonate with international audiences. The work will accompany all medal presentations during the 11-day event.
Luo, whose previous composition Ode to Peace was performed by the UN Symphony Orchestra, emphasized music's role in fostering global connections: 'Artistic expression transcends borders—this anthem carries Chengdu's voice to the world.'
