Global Poll: China’s ‘Two Mountains’ Concept Gains Strong International Backing

As China marks the 20th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's "Two Mountains" ecological concept, a global survey reveals overwhelming international support for the nation's green development model. The CGTN-led poll of 24,515 respondents across 48 countries shows 81.6% believe China's approach of prioritizing environmental protection over traditional growth models offers a blueprint for sustainable development.

From Theory to Global Recognition

The survey highlights particular praise for China's large-scale afforestation (68.8% approval), desertification control (66.5%), and clean energy expansion (70.5%). Notably, 75.5% of respondents credit Chinese clean energy exports with accelerating global green transitions, while 71.8% applaud China's ability to maintain 6% annual GDP growth with minimal energy consumption increases.

Global South Leads in Approval

Support proves strongest in developing nations, with Global South respondents showing 7-11 percentage points higher approval than average. Younger demographics under 44 consistently demonstrated above-average enthusiasm across all categories, suggesting growing youth alignment with China's ecological vision.

Redefining Climate Leadership

Nearly half of respondents (49.7%) identify China as a key driver of global climate action, with 43.9% recognizing its leadership role. The UK and US showed notable support among G7 nations, while 79.9% of all respondents praised China's energy conservation practices as exemplary models.

The findings come as China reports restoring 26% of its territory through ecological projects since 2012, with renewable energy now comprising 50.9% of installed power capacity. With 76.7% acknowledging China's effective greenhouse gas control, the poll suggests growing global confidence in Chinese environmental governance as nations seek climate solutions.
