China’s Qingzhou IV Wind Farm Sets New Offshore Energy Milestone

In a bold stride toward renewable energy leadership, China's Qingzhou IV offshore wind farm has emerged as a beacon of innovation in the South China Sea. Located 69 kilometers off the coast of Yangjiang City in Guangdong Province, this project represents the Chinese mainland's furthest offshore and deepest-water wind energy endeavor to date.

Powering Progress

Operated by Mingyang Smart Energy, the wind farm generates approximately 1.83 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually – enough to power nearly 800,000 households. By replacing 570,000 tonnes of standard coal consumption each year, the project aligns with global climate goals while addressing energy security needs.

Engineering Breakthrough

The facility features the groundbreaking OceanX platform, the world's first dual-rotor floating wind turbine arranged in a V-shape configuration. This technological marvel alone can supply 30,000 homes with sustainable energy, demonstrating China's growing expertise in marine energy solutions.

Strategic Significance

As coastal cities like Yangjiang pursue low-carbon development, Qingzhou IV's success highlights the economic potential of offshore wind investments. The project's location in the Greater Bay Area – a hub for technology and manufacturing – positions it as a key player in regional energy transition plans.
