Diplomatic Push in Yunnan
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Myanmar's Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe in Yunnan Province on Thursday, pledging to deepen bilateral cooperation as the nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. The talks occurred ahead of the tenth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting, highlighting China's growing regional engagement.
Building a Shared Future
Wang emphasized the need to accelerate construction of a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, stating: "Our cooperation should contribute to national rejuvenation and development while respecting each other's chosen paths." He reaffirmed China's support for Myanmar's sovereignty and development model while urging enhanced security for Chinese projects and personnel in Myanmar.
Cross-Border Priorities
The Chinese diplomat called for intensified efforts against cross-border crime and maintaining stability along their 2,100-km shared border. U Than Swe reiterated Myanmar's adherence to the one-China principle and thanked China for supporting post-disaster reconstruction and economic development, particularly through infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.
