Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing's support for dialogue between Thailand and Cambodia to rebuild mutual trust during high-level talks in Yunnan Province on Thursday. The discussions occurred alongside the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, a key platform for addressing regional challenges.
"China is willing to provide necessary assistance in line with the wishes of both sides," Wang stated during his meeting with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa. Maris praised China's "objective and fair stance" in facilitating conflict resolution, underscoring Beijing's growing role as a stabilizing force in Southeast Asia.
The ministers also celebrated 50 years of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, with Wang highlighting achievements in infrastructure projects like the China-Thailand railway. He proposed expanding collaboration in green energy, digital innovation, and AI development – sectors attracting significant interest from global investors.
As co-chairs of the MLC framework, both leaders committed to advancing subregional cooperation. Wang described the mechanism as "the most successful" of its kind in Asia, while Maris emphasized Thailand's dedication to strengthening multilateral partnerships under China's strategic vision.
The talks signal China's continued economic and diplomatic engagement with ASEAN nations, offering new opportunities for businesses while addressing complex geopolitical dynamics in the Mekong region.
