Wang Yi to Chair Key Lancang-Mekong Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will lead high-stakes diplomatic talks this week as he chairs the 10th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Yunnan Province. The two-day gathering in Anning city, starting Thursday, brings together representatives from six Southeast Asian nations to address shared challenges and opportunities along the vital waterway.

An informal discussion between China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand is also scheduled alongside the main event, signaling intensified regional coordination. The LMC framework, established in 2016, has become a crucial platform for sustainable development and cross-border infrastructure projects impacting over 240 million people across the Mekong region.

Yunnan Province's strategic location as China's gateway to Southeast Asia underscores the meeting's focus on enhancing trade connectivity and environmental cooperation. Observers anticipate discussions on climate resilience strategies and new initiatives to balance economic growth with ecological protection in the shared river basin.
