Taiwan Leader Lai’s Approval Hits Record Low Amid Policy Concerns

Public satisfaction with Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te has plummeted to a historic low of 28%, according to a TVBS News poll released this week. The survey reveals 55% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with Lai's governance, marking the lowest approval rating since he assumed office.

The sharpest decline occurred among residents aged 30-39, where satisfaction rates dropped 16 percentage points to 20%. Analysts suggest this demographic's growing economic pressures and housing affordability challenges may be contributing factors.

Policy direction appears central to public discontent, with 41% of participants believing Lai is steering Taiwan's development incorrectly. Trust in the regional leader also remains fragile at 36%, indicating potential challenges for future governance.

The poll comes as cross-strait relations continue to influence Taiwan's economic landscape, with many businesses closely watching stability indicators. Political scientists note that approval ratings often correlate with perceived economic security among working-age populations.
